Our first event after our launching as an official Chapter of the International Water Association’s Young Water Professionals was a webinar on “The Water and Wastewater Sector in Cyprus” which took place on Friday 27th November 2020.

Our guest speaker was Eliana Tofa-Christidou, a Senior Executive Engineer at the Cyprus Water Development Department (WDD). Eliana presented the current situation of the water and wastewater sector, as well as projected trends, challenges and approaches by the WDD.

Information about our Guest Speaker:

Eliana Tofa-Christidou has a Degree in Civil Engineering (National Technical University of Athens) and a Master of Science in Hydrology for Environmental Management (Imperial College London). After completing her studies, she worked as a civil engineer in the private sector in Cyprus. She joined the Water Development Department (WDD) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus in 2002. She has extensive knowledge and experience on the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water supply works in Cyprus relating to desalination, water treatment plants, pumping stations and bulk water supply and distribution networks. She is a Founding and currently a Board Member of the Cyprus Water Association. She is a Board Member of the Limassol Water Board, a Supervising Engineer for Large Dams and the Representative of the Director of the Water Development Department on the Central Committee on Changes and Claims of the Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus.
